If someone calls and begins the conversation with,

"Hey. Are you busy?"

Say no. No matter what. Always say no.

Birthday and a Funeral

This past Sunday a Riverside police officer was shot and killed during a traffic stop and foot pursuit. I read the email on Monday and I must admit I got a little sad. The man was a veteran. He survived (presumable) Iraq only to be killed back at home. And as usual, he was young. A coworker of mine said he was only 26 years old.

I got another email today with an update on the case. They arrested the man who killed him, some punk who (again according to my coworker) had already committed a hit-and-run when the officer pulled him over. The email then proceeded to give details on the man's funeral. The date?...

Tuesday, November 16 2010 @ 10am.

My heart sank.

I know this sounds selfish but I don't like that it's on my birthday. While I'm out celebrating and enjoying my day others not too far from my apartment will be mourning the loss of their son/brother/cousin/friend.

Obviously bad things happen everyday but it sucks when you actually know of them. =(

I have put my hair into braids (never-before-tried twists I might add which I absolutely love love love) and now look like the tame, well-mannered Ciku I've grown to know and love instead of some hooligan gallivanting 'round Riverside. Oh what my lack of caring does to me...

LessonLearned

When the school trolley arrived at my stop it parked a little far from the curb. I could have stepped down and then up onto the curb but decided against it and instead leaped from the last step to the sidewalk. Bad idea.

Not only did I cut someone off when I landed on the sidewalk but a blind person at that. I landed about an inch or so away from her walking cane. She jumped, I quickly said sorry and fled the scene.

From now on, no more Superman leaps.
